Crystal Chan Luu

18 Oct

I’m still working on my Chan Luu technique, but I’m not completely satisfied with my skills yet. Anyway, at least I have finally realized what kind of beads are better for this type of work….

What to do when you only have two quartz stones?

Mmmmm… I thought about it and since I really didn’t want to make just a pair of earings I decided to mix them with some glass beads of different colours and shapes and make a bracelet out of it. Here is the result paired with some earings too.

Last week, in the window of an expensive fashion jewellery shop in Milan city centre I saw a bracelet made with a glass bead and some silk string and I thought it didn’t look too difficult to duplicate… So here is the result.

Before and After

Last Monday I’ve been commissioned the repair of this Tibetan bracelet which belongs to my brother’s girlfriend. It’s a souvenir from a trip that her mother did in Tibet few years back, and it was in a very poor condition.

So, since I’m a very kind person, I volunteered for the task and replaced the cord with a black waxed thread and made a brand new sliding closure.

Here are the before and after pictures…

Recycling

This time I tried to give a new life to old beads again. I’ve been given these black beads by a colleague of mine. Unluckily they weren’t too many so I had to opt for a bracelet. They actually were enough for a double row bracelet with some silver decoration in between. The result is far better than I expected. 🙂

Anna Stepanovna Politkovskaya
30/08/1958 – 07/10/2006

“She was brave, she was bold, and she was beautiful. In her fearless quest to uncover the wrongdoings of the Russian State, Anna Politkovskaya inspired awe in some and fear in countless others. An investigative journalist for Moscow’s liberal ‘Novaya Gazeta’, she was the only spokesperson for victims of Putin’s government. Hers was a lonely voice, yet loud enough for the entire country to hear. It was too loud. At age 48 she was assassinated for simply doing her job. A documentary about the bravery of the human spirit. As the director says, it ‘is especially important now, when the world is so full of cynicism and corruption, when we so desperately need more people with Anna’s level of courage and integrity and commitment’.”

Yesterday evening, after a very enjoyable afternoon with my girl friends in which we made a macramè bracelet and we had a lovely jasmine tea with an equally lovely cake, I came up with these clusters earings made with jade stones and pink glass beads. I felt that, after having helped my friend Paola and her 10 years old daughter Marta, to make their first macramè bracelet, I also wanted to make something myself.

I’m not exactly satisfied with the result, and the technique is a bit rough too, but I wanted to try something new. I’m not sure what it is but perhaps it is the combination of jade and pink glass, that doesn’t work. Anyway, this is just a prototype, and the nice thing about all this is that if you’re not happy with the result you can always undo and re-make it for as many times as you wish! 🙂

If there’s anyone out there that, by chance, is reading this, please, tell me your opinion. I would really appreciate it. Thank you! 🙂
