Something different

25 Feb

For a change, this time, we have something culinary here! As a matter of fact, last Saturday, I’ve been invited at my friend’s Paola for a light dinner (actually an “aperitivo“) for girls and I decided to contribute to the menu with these pretzels.

It was my first time making pretzels and, despite their shape is far from being perfect and that they don’t look exactly inviting, they were quite good, or at least this is what my friends said. I actually quite enjoyed them and I think I’ll make them again… since I have some brewer’s yeast left and I wouldn’t know what to do with it otherwise!! 🙂

Crystal and filigree

18 Feb

This time we have a new entry: the filigree.

Actually I think it is also the first time for me to use a proper chain….

Anyway, here is my brand new creation: a crystal beads and filigree necklace. I saw a similar one in a shop in town the other day and I thought it was pretty easy to duplicate. Here’s the result.

The fixed thought diversion

14 Feb

What do you do when you have to distract your mind from a fixed thought? Easy answer: you keep yourself busy. So, here is how I kept myself busy yesterday evening… upcycling another jar, adding some crocheted blue cotton border and a white ribbon…

Lunar New Year’s Shamballa

12 Feb

As the Lunar New Year has just been celabrated, welcoming the year of the Snake (), I decided to celebrate it too making myself a brand new Shamballa, with 8 beads.

In Chinese the word for “eight” sounds similar to the word which means “prosper” or “wealth“. In regional dialects the words for “eight” and “fortune” are also similar. There is also a visual resemblance between two digits, “88”, and 囍, the “shuāng xĭ” (“double joy”), a popular decorative design composed of two stylized characters 喜 (“xĭ” meaning “joy” or “happiness”).

The number 8 is viewed as such an auspicious number that even being assigned a number with several eights is considered very lucky. 🙂
