Far from perfect

29 Jul

I have been thinking for a while to make myself a key-holder for my hallway but sometimes things don’t go as you have planned. So, instead of a key-holder, my project turned into a bracelets organizer…

It is far from being perfect – that’s why it isn’t hanged in my hallway! – but at least I’m happy with the decoupage. It was my first time with it and I wasn’t sure of the result. Moreover I’m not a great fan of decoupage… but I must say that I quite like how it came out.

Summer Travelbag

23 Jul

This past week-end I’ve been working a lot on a project that I longed to for a few years! Yes… years!

Some years ago I bought at my local market this light blue cotton fabric with circles pattern that really intrigued me. This is actually the very first piece of fabric of my collection, and I’ve always thought to make a bag out of it, but I didn’t know how to. So it was left waiting along with my other fabrics until the day would come….. And at last, the day has come!

Few years later, as the fabric lightly faded, I was finally able to make my travelbag! I again followed the template that I found on the Sue Kim‘s “Bags the modern classicbook , and made some changes – it is larger than the one on the book –  and here is the result. The book gives it a 3 stars of difficulty (3 is the maximum), and I would add an extra half star because I changed the misures too. Not bad for a newbie. 😀

It took me 3 afternoons to stitch it and it is far from being “perfect“… moreover it isn’t exactly as I imaginated it back then, but it is quite handy, both as a gym bag or as a travel bag, and I like it! 😎

…but definitely a Summer bag!

Summer Chan-luu

22 Jul

As I’ve been away for a couple of days in the mountains for a short break I brought some “work” with me and made this “Summer” Chan-Luu bracelet with 4mm green and red/pink agate beads and natural leather string.

I quite fancy the button…

Gloomy mood

12 Jul

When I’m in a bad mood I usually cheer up playing tennis. But lately I haven’t been able to play due to a knee problem, so my level of gloominess is at the top.

To keep it under control I try to direct my (negative) energy into something creative….. this is how I produced this pair of earings and bracelet with golden chain, garnet beads and recycled pearls from an old pair of earings that I’ve never worn.

It took me quite a while to finish it because since I didn’t have a golden chain, I had to make it myself using single ringlets. Not too bad a result for a gloomy day.

Ginki copycat

10 Jul

What to do when you like Ginki bracelets but they cost too much…

The answer is: do it yourself! Obviously.

So that’s what I did. I found a Japanese Chirimen Kimono cord at StinkyDogBeads on Etsy and I made it myself. The blue one on the top left of the picture is the original Ginki that I bought some time ago, while in the picture below you can see my attempt… not too bad and definitely less expensive.

Wimbledon necklace

9 Jul

I had a very lazy weekend. So lazy that I was almost ashamed of myself.

So, in the end, I decided to be at least a bit productive, and while watching the Wimbledon Championship men’s final between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, I came out with this necklace made with baguette shaped amethyst and 6mm round agate beads and silver chain.

The purple colour remind a bit of Wimbledon… perhaps I should add some green too for a perfect… match! 🙂

Just a normal girl

8 Jul

Since I am not allowed to play tennis in these days because of a knee tendonitis, I have been taking comfort from watching Wimbledon on tv. It is always so refreshing!

As the tournament is now over, I must say that I was particularly impressed by this year Women’s champion, Marion Bartoli, who defeated a very emotional Sabine Lisicki, 6-1 6-4, in 1hr and 21 mins.

I’m glad that a “normal girl” was able lift the trophy, being a “normal girl” myself! 😉 Well done Marion, and thank you for the good time!

(…) I’m not calling myself a genius,” she says. I love to make fun of myself, I’m not the kind of person who is saying gosh I’m so perfect.

“I‘m totally the opposite, I’m probably doing a million stupid things a day, I’m just trying not to be a pain for the people around me, just to be normal. I will definitely want to stay like that because I just don’t want to change.”

She’s a Wimbledon champion now. She doesn’t have to change a thing.

My granny Lucia purse

2 Jul

I think I’ve inherited my passion for re-cycling and up-cycling from my grandmother Lucia.

She was always doing things either with her sawing machine or with her crochet. She often used to buy clothes and reshape them to fit her tastes. And she always embellished tableclothes and bathtowel with lace and decorations.

So I’ve been thinking a lot about her while making this my new project… You won’t ever imagine where the outer fabric that I used for this purse, came from… No clue?

Well, some time ago my brother asked my mother to shorten the sleeves of a shirt he uses for work and the light blue fabric is the remnant!

I unstitched the sleeves and ironed them to remove the signs of the old seam and then I added some interfacing to make it stronger. I didn’t have enough fabric to make the string too, so I used the one from the lining that can also be seen on the corsage.

Then I followed the template that I found on the Sue Kim‘s “Bags the modern classicbook …. and voilà!

The instructions on the book were very clear and detailed and I didn’t have any problem at all. I also added the corsage for an extra touch… I think my granny would be proud of me! 😀

Pink jade Chan-luu

1 Jul

Two weekends ago I went for a short break in Umbria with my friend Paola‘s family and friends and we were (Paola and I) supposed to carve out some time for ourselves to brush up on the Chan-luu tecnique and make a new bracelet.

Of course we didn’t have time to do so, but since I had all the material ready I decided to make one on my own.

I used some golden/bronze leather string along with pink Jade multifaceted 4 mm beads and gold plated glazed beads. I also modified the tecnique a bit compared to my first Chan-luu. Instead of starting with a loop (the button hole), I begun with introducing the button first. While I left some string unused in the end so to have an adjustable locking.

I think it works better!
