Minor adjustments

22 Jul

👗➡️👚
This top was originally a dress. People who know me are well aware of the fact that I don’t wear dresses that often, so to speak. 🙄 Anyway, I bought this one because I liked the print and it was very cheap and, as predictable as it was, the dress was left unused in the closet for 5 or more years. Then, few weeks ago it suddenly resurfaced from the closet during a late spring-clean… In the spur of the moment I decided that if I wanted to use this garment it had to change. So, I cut the bottom at hips level and turned it into a top. Then I added some broderie anglaise to the sleeves and to the neckline and my brand new wearable top was ready!

Recycling denim

22 Jan

I love to recycle. So, when my brother asked me to shorten his new pair of jeans I decided to use the remnants to make some always useful zip pouches.

To bring some colour to the pouches I matched a lovely Ikea fabric, with orange cat prints for one, and some orange lace for the other. My magic sewingmachine made the rest….

I love the result.

Old fashioned new shorts

8 Sep

Among this Summer good intentions there was one about getting rid of old clothes. I’ve got plenty of old trousers which not only don’t fit me anymore but are also very old-fashioned.

So I decided, instead of spending money for a pair of new bermuda shorts to transform an old pair of bell bottom trousers.

I cut the legs and used a bit of the left over fabric to enlarge the waist area as seen in a tutorial on the web….

My shorts are Nemo approved!

Handmade birthday gift

5 Sep

For my Taiko friend Simona’s birthday, a couple of weeks ago, I bought a purse sewing kit and completed the task in 2 hours, more or less. Well, maybe more… Actually it was more difficult than I expected especially because the instruction sheet wasn’t that clear.

But the result is quite nice, isn’t it? And those purses are always useful. 😄

Productive Summer

4 Sep

All in all this has been a productive Summer. I could have done more, but you are not always inspired, right?

So, let’s start from my latest craft: here is my brand new insulated bottle holder.

Some time ago I lost – I don’t know where or when – a very handy insulated bottle holder that I bought, back in 2009,  in Japan at a 100¥ store. It was such a useful item that I decided to try and make a new one.

For the outer fabric I have chosen a scrap of this starred waterproof fabric that I used for another project last year. While for the inner insulation I have recycled an old – and a bit worn-out – windshield sun shade. The two white strings are also a recycle from an old shopping bag.

Anyway, as it is a prototype it is not perfect, perhaps it is even too big. But at least it can accomodate both 500ml or 750ml bottles easily. 😁

Just do it

5 Jul

It took me a long time to convince myself that I was ready for more challenging projects and in the end I decided that I shouldn’t procrastinate any longer and… Just do it!

So, with the help of this book by Yoshiko Tsukiori, and with my faithful sewing-machine (a legacy of my mother), I made my very first clothing item…

This top here! I even dared to make a little change as the back should have been closed with some drawstrings, but I preferred to sew it and add a button at the neckline….

The top is actually the one on the cover of the book.

I think mum would have been proud of me… But also she would have found plenty of defects! 😉

Swap!

10 Jun

Some time ago my extremely kind and talented friend Giorgia made me this beautiful Totoro, which is a kind of Totem to me. 😄
So, I straightaway wanted to reciprocate her kindness but it took me quite a while to decide how to. In the end I decided for a purse with a handstitched portrait of her lovely four-legged nephew mr Mambo Puppy.
Swaps make me happy! 💗

New life for an Old Ottoman

29 May

Some time ago a friend asked me if I could make  a cover for an old  ottoman  that she has in her child room. I studied  the project and after a while agreed. She bought the fabric and some weeks later….

It’s not perfect but at least I tried to match the print on the front.
Btw,  the “customer”  is satisfied and so am I. 🙂

A farewell gift

22 Mar

My post today is about a little gift I made for a friend who is leaving for a while.

My friend and Taiko teacher Tomoko is going back to Japan for 1 year, so I wanted to thank her for her kindness, patience and for all the time that she spent on teaching me.

I also selfishly made this so that when she looks at it she might remind of me too, and, by the way, little pouches are always useful! 😀

Thank you for all the happy hours Tomoko-sensei. Come back soon!
