or…. being able to wear the pair of jeans that you’ve purchased the same day, because you can shorten the hem yourself! 🙂

PS I know you may think now that my life is a bit dull if happiness is just being able to sew a hem, and….. I think you’re right.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind – 風の谷のナウシカ Kaze no tani no Naushika

“Woman was taken out of man; not out of his head to top him, nor out of his feet to be trampled underfoot; but out of his side to be equal to him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be loved”

I won’t forget

Anna Stepanovna Politkovskaya, 30 August 1958 – 7 October 2006

Five years have passed since Anna Politkovskaja‘s  assassination but nothing has changed:  the failure to find her killers is a shameful reminder of the weakness of Russia’s democracy and the corruption of its political system.

The Russian journalist who has been killed 5 years ago today, fought hard in what she believed and gave a voice to those who couldn’t speak for themselves.

She lived her life under a costant threat but she never drew back from telling the truth about what she saw, whether it was human rights abuses in Chechnya, Vladimir Putin’s colonial policy in the Caucasus region, Chechen terrorism or state terrorism.

“I think the duty of doctors is to give health to their patients, the duty of the singer to sing, and the duty of the journalist is to write what this journalist sees in reality,” she once said.

She would not stop reporting what she saw, so she was stopped.

The least that we can do is to remember her and her work and try to follow her example of strenght and integrity.

Quote of the day

25 Aug
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did.
So throw off the bowlines, Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
Mark Twain

Though my soul may set in darkness
It will rise in perfect light,
I have loved the stars too fondly
To be fearful of the night.
