Solitary Christmas gift

27 Dec

In the past few years, for Christmas, I was used to make myself most of the presents for my friends, but this year I decided otherwise.

Actually, the only gift I decided to make for 2016 is this necklace for my friend Simona….

It’s simple to make but it has quite a visual impact. 😉

It is made with a cultivated pearl, two crystals, an amazonite stone and a decorated brass connector.

Sparkling bracelet

I have been thinking for a while to make something like this bracelet and the chance came when I found the right size of chain at my local market last Friday.

So I made 9 strings using a silver coloured chain adding in between randomly few cultured freshwater pearls from an old damaged necklace of my Grandmother, amethyst beads and tinted jade beads and few matte white glass beads of different sizes.

I really like the result and I think I might add some other strings to make it even richer.

I am also thinking about how to develop it into a larger project……. We will see.

Winter hat

Knitted hat for a Winter day

Today I am very happy to introduce you to my new Winter hat. Why am I so happy? Because it is my first real knitting project ever.

I have always found crochet easier than knitting so I never really gave it a try. My mother was very good at both actually, but I was able only to learn a bit of crochet from her.

So, with a little help from a friend who shew me the basic stitches I came up with this hat. I didn’t follow any particular pattern. Actually I followed my instinct, and I think it came out quite nice, and right in time with the first below zero temperatures of this otherwise mild Winter….

Ghibli pendants

Totoro & Ji-Ji

I’ve been experimenting a lot lately. These two pendants, inspired by Studio Ghibi characters Totoro and Ji-Ji, are the results. Actually the process was quite easy: I have only printed the pictures, cut into shape and pasted on two oval cameo cabochon base pendants, and, since I didn’t have any suitable glass cabochon, I decided to coat them with… transparent nail varnish. I applied it several times. The result is quite nice. 🙂

(more to follow….)

Summer Collection 2015

3 Jun

After a long time, and very gloomy days, all of a sudden, I’ve finally found inspiration again. So yesterday, I took my beads and stones and wires and pliers off the drawers and began to work. It has been therapeutic, relaxing and rewarding too.

The inspiration came from a visit to the Festival dell’Oriente (Festival of the Orient), that took place in Milan this past long week-end. There, I also found the source of strenght to follow this inspiration: at a Japanese stall I bought some matcha tea (抹茶) that supposedly will give me energy and focus and good health.

Anyway, the bright colours of the Nepalese and Indian stalls are the concept behind this bracelet and my whole Summer Collection that is soon to come.

All the beads are stones: Korean green jade, blue jade, crystal, iolite, jasper and blue agate,

Versatile Blogger Award!

30 Jan

Today my little blog has been nominated for the “Versatile Blogger Award” by the lovely Hali, from Softwearhacks.

This is my first nomination ever and I’m very excited and, of course, honoured.

As I’m not familiar with this kind of things, I’m also very gratful that Hali took her time to write the rules… 😀

2. List 7 facts about yourself.

3. Nominate 15 other blogs!

4. I’m “versatile” also in sports: I play tennis and I do yoga, and I used to play rugby and judo in my younger days.

5. when I see something that I like, I look at it carefully trying to find out if I can reproduce it. 🙂

6. I love Japan and I’m trying to learn Japanese in my free time.

My friend Paola last year deserved more than one gift for being very kind and supportive. So, for Christmas I made her also this eye mask hoping that it will help her to relax.

Gloomy Monday bracelet

27 Oct

I know it’s been a while since my last post….  no excuses,  I just have been a bit lazy lately but finally last weekend I found new inspiration and I came up with this bracelet.
It is made with a silver chain, some silver beads and some coloured waxed cotton threads.
I also added a little kitty charm that could easily become my new trademark… another one!

I’m a bit hesitant to find my ultimate trademark….

Anyway, I needed some colours in this gloomy Autumn Monday, and here it is:
