Minor adjustments

This top was originally a dress. People who know me are well aware of the fact that I don’t wear dresses that often, so to speak. 🙄 Anyway, I bought this one because I liked the print and it was very cheap and, as predictable as it was, the dress was left unused in the closet for 5 or more years. Then, few weeks ago it suddenly resurfaced from the closet during a late spring-clean… In the spur of the moment I decided that if I wanted to use this garment it had to change. So, I cut the bottom at hips level and turned it into a top. Then I added some broderie anglaise to the sleeves and to the neckline and my brand new wearable top was ready!

Wearable top

17 Jul

Last week I worked on a top I’ve been given for my birthday whick was way too big for me. It was at least two sizes larger (do I really look *this* fat??) and it wasn’t really wearable. So, since it wasn’t possible to go and change it, I decided to modify it myself.

First I removed the ruffle and the elastic band on the hips, then I cut and sew the sides according to the size of another top which fits me, and then I reduced the ruffle and sewed it back.

It was my first time with jersey fabric and it didn’t go too bad.

Look at the “before” and “after” picture…..

Curtains

4 Jun

My house is small. I don’t have either a hobby room or even a lumber room where to store the material for my little works, so I had to turn my living room TV cabinet into a storage unit. That’s why I decided to shade its glass doors with two made-to-measure curtains.

It took me a while to complete the task because the fabric pattern didn’t help me much at cutting the panels.

Moreover to make the curtains stick to the glass doors I used a funny trick: I happened to have two sets of chopsticks almost the same measure of the width of the windows, so I sanded the excess, added an upcycled spring each form some old used up pens and used them to prop up the curtains.

See my next post for details… 🙂

Anyway, here’s the result. I’m quite satisfied with it.
