Gloomy days

7 Feb

In these gloomy and rainy days of Winter I felt the need for some light, that’s why I decided to make this Chan-luu bracelet with crystal beads, to brighten up my life.

The Yoga teacher’s bracelet

15 Oct

While on holidays on beautiful Fuerteventura Island I decided to make this Chan-luu bracelet as gift to my lovely Yoga teacher, Sally. I decide to use some of the colours of the island that I love most: sand white lether cord for the big sand dunes beaches near Corralejo, and light blue/dark blue glass beads for the sky and the Ocean, while the black thread stands for the volcanic soil and stones.  I’m happy that Sally liked it and I think I’ll make one for myself too. 😉

Summer Chan-luu

22 Jul

As I’ve been away for a couple of days in the mountains for a short break I brought some “work” with me and made this “Summer” Chan-Luu bracelet with 4mm green and red/pink agate beads and natural leather string.

I quite fancy the button…

Two weekends ago I went for a short break in Umbria with my friend Paola‘s family and friends and we were (Paola and I) supposed to carve out some time for ourselves to brush up on the Chan-luu tecnique and make a new bracelet.

Of course we didn’t have time to do so, but since I had all the material ready I decided to make one on my own.

I used some golden/bronze leather string along with pink Jade multifaceted 4 mm beads and gold plated glazed beads. I also modified the tecnique a bit compared to my first Chan-luu. Instead of starting with a loop (the button hole), I begun with introducing the button first. While I left some string unused in the end so to have an adjustable locking.

I think it works better!

Too easy

10 Jun

Here is my latest bracelet addition: a pale blue string with charms…. this kind of bracelet has become very popular here lately, and it is far too easy to make. You just need a string and some charms with big hole and you’ve already done. You can add as many charms as you want and the string can be as long as you wish. You can even turn it into a necklace.

Anyway, here my new bracelet is flanked on the left by a “Chan-luu” I made some time ago, and on the right by a “Gin-ki” bracelet I bought recently…

Another Christmas gift

5 Dec

Here is another of my “spending review” Christmas gifts… a Chan Luu bracelet for my brother’s girlfriend. I used some rawhide string and half-crystal beads in various shades of red. I also used a red wooden one-hole button to finish it.

I must say that I really like this bracelet and I find terribly difficult to separate from it. I actually still find it difficult to separate from any of my handiworks… When I’ll be easier to part and when my technique will be good enough, only then I’ll be able to start a commerce! 🙂

Again, I’m posting it just because I’m 100% sure she’ll never visit my blog. 😉

Please welcome Red Panda

9 Nov

I normally don’t celebrate my name day, but since it is one day before my friend Simona’s name day (and she usually celebrates it) I made her this Chan Luu bracelet, with glass transparent and iridescent beads and an aviation blue leather string.

I also took this chance to make my “name brand” debut: “the Red Panda” or either “the Other Panda”… I haven’t decided yet.

Anyway, the sticker also sports a kanji which stands for the Japanese translation of my name. 🙂

Crystal Chan Luu

I’m still working on my Chan Luu technique, but I’m not completely satisfied with my skills yet. Anyway, at least I have finally realized what kind of beads are better for this type of work….

Chan Luu wannabe

5 Sep

Today I’m introducing my first attempt at a so called “Chan Luu” bracelet. Again I used some beads of my Granny’s old garnet necklace but because of that the process has been a bit tricky since the beads are quite old and the diameter of the holes are different from one another. That has been a pain in the neck. But anyway, here is the result. I’m not completely satisfied with it and sometime in the future I’ll probably redo it…

Anyway, the process itself is not too difficult but it definitely helps if you have similar beads. You can find many useful tutorials around the web – just Google “Chan Luu” – if you want to give it a try. 😉
