A bit of Japan

30 Jan

Few years ago, when the (very expensive) chirimen bracelets suddenly appeared in Italy, me and my friend Paola decided to buy some chirimen cord on Etsy to make more affordable bracelets for us.

Unluckily I have never been satisfied with the result, so I never wore it.

Then, last Summer I came up with an idea on how to use the almost forgotten cord and I made these two bracelets as birthday gifts for two friends at my Taiko group…. A Japanese themed gift for Japanese drums’ lovers.

I have also experimented with cardboard, self-printed stickers and my own rubber stamp, to make cute boxes to present the gifts in a more professional way….

Experimenting

29 Jan

In my incessant research of learning new technique I stumbled upon one which involves, once again, wire and beads. There was this pin coming up all the times on my Pinterest and I decided to give it a try. My result is far from being as nice as the one on Pinterest but this was just a first attempt….

Earrings for a birthday

9 Jan

I recently made this pair of earrings for a friend’s birthday. I really like this style and I may think to make a whole collection out of it….

Again, this is hammered brass, which this time I decorated piercing some holes, with cultivated pearls.

I also made good use (or at least I think so), of the brand new stamp I recently carved. I’m quite proud of the whole thing. 😄

Stamp my name

4 Jan

My second craft of the year is this cute little stamp.

I remember, as a child, I once made a stamp out of an eraser and that’s how I did this new one too. Basically because I don’t have the slightest idea of which is the proper raw material to use and where I can get it and also because, being an experiment, I didn’t want to spend much (only 1€ for 3 big erasers). 😁

Anyway, I wrote my name reversed on the eraser, carved it with a precision knife then glued the back on a scrap piece of wood molding.

I definitely have to refine my technique, but I think the result is cute anyway.

Earrings for the new year

2 Jan

Here is a brand new pair of earrings I made for the new year.

I hammered flat some brass wire, then I made two holes with my cute little hand-drill and added some small iolite rondelles.

I like my earrings light with simple lines and these are just perfect for me.

Solitary Christmas gift

27 Dec

In the past few years, for Christmas, I was used to make myself most of the presents for my friends, but this year I decided otherwise.

Actually, the only gift I decided to make for 2016 is this necklace for my friend Simona….

It’s simple to make but it has quite a visual impact. 😉

It is made with a cultivated pearl, two crystals, an amazonite stone and a decorated brass connector.

2016 Christmas Tree ornament

19 Dec

Every year I try to make a new ornament for my ‘alternative’ Xmas tree. This year I have played with beads….

Here it is…

And here is my Tree…

Sparkling bracelet

IMG_20160130_103929

I have been thinking for a while to make something like this bracelet and the chance came when I found the right size of chain at my local market last Friday.

So I made 9 strings using a silver coloured chain adding in between randomly few cultured freshwater pearls from an old damaged necklace of my Grandmother, amethyst beads and tinted jade beads and few matte white glass beads of different sizes.

I really like the result and I think I might add some other strings to make it even richer.

I am also thinking about how to develop it into a larger project……. We will see.

Winter hat

Knitted hat for a Winter day

Today I am very happy to introduce you to my new Winter hat. Why am I so happy? Because it is my first real knitting project ever.

I have always found crochet easier than knitting so I never really gave it a try. My mother was very good at both actually, but I was able only to learn a bit of crochet from her.

So, with a little help from a friend who shew me the basic stitches I came up with this hat. I didn’t follow any particular pattern. Actually I followed my instinct, and I think it came out quite nice, and right in time with the first below zero temperatures of this otherwise mild Winter….

May Totoro be with you

18 Jan

Today I am posting two other attempts at “nail enameling” 😁.
I made these two  Ghibli themed pendants for two beautiful and very special fans of Totoro: my friend Michela’s daugthers Viola & Ester.

So now they can take the Spirit of the Forest always with them….
