Crochet market bag

19 Jul

Crochet market bags have become quite popular recently due to the growing environmental awareness and I have been thinking for a long time to make one myself. I’ve been looking for tutorials and patterns on the web but in the end I decided to go with the flow and let my creativity free. 😀

The result is this red white and blue market bag that my roommate Nemo decided to test straight away. I used scraps of cotton threads so it’s a win-win situation.

Nemo says, recycle. Upcycle. Be kind to the world and stop using plastic bags!

Pearls bracelet

22 May

I made this pearls bracelet to match with the necklace and earrings from my previous post.  Not much to say here except that the pearls were beautiful so it was an easy job. 🙂

Reshaped pearl necklace

21 May

Some time ago a friend asked me to reshape her aunt’s pearl necklace which she thought was a bit over the top. So we agreed to make a long necklace  instead with the pendant pearls and some other pearls from the old matching bracelet she had.

I was able to make the necklace, a pair of earrings and a little bracelet too. (check my next post for the bracelet).

Uninspired necklace

7 May

I made this necklace some time ago for a friend’s birthday. It’s a very simple necklace made with chrystals, black glass beads, blue calcite stones, orange (I don’t remember which) stones, cultivated pearls and chain.

I’m sorry to say that I don’t think it’s one of my best handiwork as I wasn’t particularly inspired. Nonetheless it has been apparently appreciated….

Just my imagination

10 Apr

My mother taught me how to crochet when I was about 6 years old. At that time I used to make very loooong chains with scrap threads and nothing more than that. It was fun, but my childhood curiosity didn’t take me too much further: I made little things here and there throughout the years but it was only few years ago that I rediscovered my crochet. Unluckily my mum is no longer around to teach me all the tricks so I have to rely only on my limited knowledge and the web.

All this preamble to say that I made my first crocheted crossbody purse a couple of weeks ago. No template or tutorial here. It just came straight out of my imagination.

I think mum would be proud but she would hint all the – many – mistakes too. 🙂 ❤

A bit of Japan

30 Jan

Few years ago, when the (very expensive) chirimen bracelets suddenly appeared in Italy, me and my friend Paola decided to buy some chirimen cord on Etsy to make more affordable bracelets for us.

Unluckily I have never been satisfied with the result, so I never wore it.

Then, last Summer I came up with an idea on how to use the almost forgotten cord and I made these two bracelets as birthday gifts for two friends at my Taiko group…. A Japanese themed gift for Japanese drums’ lovers.

I have also experimented with cardboard, self-printed stickers and my own rubber stamp, to make cute boxes to present the gifts in a more professional way….

Experimenting

29 Jan

In my incessant research of learning new technique I stumbled upon one which involves, once again, wire and beads. There was this pin coming up all the times on my Pinterest and I decided to give it a try. My result is far from being as nice as the one on Pinterest but this was just a first attempt….

Earrings for a birthday

9 Jan

I recently made this pair of earrings for a friend’s birthday. I really like this style and I may think to make a whole collection out of it….

Again, this is hammered brass, which this time I decorated piercing some holes, with cultivated pearls.

I also made good use (or at least I think so), of the brand new stamp I recently carved. I’m quite proud of the whole thing. 😄

Stamp my name

4 Jan

My second craft of the year is this cute little stamp.

I remember, as a child, I once made a stamp out of an eraser and that’s how I did this new one too. Basically because I don’t have the slightest idea of which is the proper raw material to use and where I can get it and also because, being an experiment, I didn’t want to spend much (only 1€ for 3 big erasers). 😁

Anyway, I wrote my name reversed on the eraser, carved it with a precision knife then glued the back on a scrap piece of wood molding.

I definitely have to refine my technique, but I think the result is cute anyway.

Earrings for the new year

2 Jan

Here is a brand new pair of earrings I made for the new year.

I hammered flat some brass wire, then I made two holes with my cute little hand-drill and added some small iolite rondelles.

I like my earrings light with simple lines and these are just perfect for me.
