Tennis balls

1 Mar

For some time I have been thinking what to do with some old tennis balls that aren’t performing any more….. in the end I decided to make a couple of cordwrap. The most difficult part was to skin the ball, then I added a snap button and it was done.

I really like my new cordwraps and now I’m studying some other uses for recycled tennis balls….

A first time

28 Feb

This is my very first crocheted sweater ever. Last Autumn I bought this lovely wool at my local market and I wanted to make something with it rather than the usual scarf. So I searched the web and I found an easy pattern on Pinterest and started from there.

The beginning was a bit rough as I didn’t have a clear idea of the measures. Then I didn’t consider it should be fitting a woman bust…. so I have undone it a couple of time before finding the right way.

It’s not perfect but I made it myself, and I like it!

Cute little flowers

16 Feb

I made these cute little crochet flower brooches as a gift for some friends in Fuerteventura, where I went for a week holiday last September. I enjoyed making them: a little present for special people.

Minor adjustments

22 Jul

👗➡️👚
This top was originally a dress. People who know me are well aware of the fact that I don’t wear dresses that often, so to speak. 🙄 Anyway, I bought this one because I liked the print and it was very cheap and, as predictable as it was, the dress was left unused in the closet for 5 or more years. Then, few weeks ago it suddenly resurfaced from the closet during a late spring-clean… In the spur of the moment I decided that if I wanted to use this garment it had to change. So, I cut the bottom at hips level and turned it into a top. Then I added some broderie anglaise to the sleeves and to the neckline and my brand new wearable top was ready!

Pearls bracelet

22 May

I made this pearls bracelet to match with the necklace and earrings from my previous post.  Not much to say here except that the pearls were beautiful so it was an easy job. 🙂

Uninspired necklace

7 May

I made this necklace some time ago for a friend’s birthday. It’s a very simple necklace made with chrystals, black glass beads, blue calcite stones, orange (I don’t remember which) stones, cultivated pearls and chain.

I’m sorry to say that I don’t think it’s one of my best handiwork as I wasn’t particularly inspired. Nonetheless it has been apparently appreciated….

Rainbow necklace

2 May

This collar necklace is made mainly with 6mm dyed jade beads, a “Zama” golden spacer and brass wire.

It is a custom made order for a friend’s sister who saw something similar and asked if I could make a replica. Thankfully, since I am a fan of tiny beads I had plenty of colourful stones to use.

Of course it differs from the original basically because it’s not easy to find the exact raw materials but it’s as similar as possible, and most of all, it has been appreciated by the recipient. 🙂

Just my imagination

10 Apr

My mother taught me how to crochet when I was about 6 years old. At that time I used to make very loooong chains with scrap threads and nothing more than that. It was fun, but my childhood curiosity didn’t take me too much further: I made little things here and there throughout the years but it was only few years ago that I rediscovered my crochet. Unluckily my mum is no longer around to teach me all the tricks so I have to rely only on my limited knowledge and the web.

All this preamble to say that I made my first crocheted crossbody purse a couple of weeks ago. No template or tutorial here. It just came straight out of my imagination.

I think mum would be proud but she would hint all the – many – mistakes too. 🙂 ❤

Washi tape magic – again

4 Apr

Being a bit bored with the usual gift wrapping I explored the use of washi tape to decorate and personalize a plain white – and inexpensive – paper bag. It is very simple yet cute.

To close the bag I made two matching holes on the front and back sheets and passed a pink ribbon through, and simply tied it in the front. I also drew some candles on the top of the “washi cake” and wrote “Buon Compleanno”, which is the Italian for “Happy Birthday” . 🙂

Golden necklace

3 Apr

Here is a long necklace I made on request from a friend. It was a Christmas gift for someone who likes showy ornaments…. It was a bit difficult for me because I normally like smaller and more delicate items but in the end I think this is an agreeable compromise.

Made of semi precious stones (tinted jade, turquoise) and cultivated pearl, along with brass chain and “zamak” spacers. The packaging is also handmade.
