Earrings for a birthday

9 Jan

I recently made this pair of earrings for a friend’s birthday. I really like this style and I may think to make a whole collection out of it….

Again, this is hammered brass, which this time I decorated piercing some holes, with cultivated pearls.

I also made good use (or at least I think so), of the brand new stamp I recently carved. I’m quite proud of the whole thing. 😄

Stamp my name

4 Jan

My second craft of the year is this cute little stamp.

I remember, as a child, I once made a stamp out of an eraser and that’s how I did this new one too. Basically because I don’t have the slightest idea of which is the proper raw material to use and where I can get it and also because, being an experiment, I didn’t want to spend much (only 1€ for 3 big erasers). 😁

Anyway, I wrote my name reversed on the eraser, carved it with a precision knife then glued the back on a scrap piece of wood molding.

I definitely have to refine my technique, but I think the result is cute anyway.

Earrings for the new year

2 Jan

Here is a brand new pair of earrings I made for the new year.

I hammered flat some brass wire, then I made two holes with my cute little hand-drill and added some small iolite rondelles.

I like my earrings light with simple lines and these are just perfect for me.

Solitary Christmas gift

27 Dec

In the past few years, for Christmas, I was used to make myself most of the presents for my friends, but this year I decided otherwise.

Actually, the only gift I decided to make for 2016 is this necklace for my friend Simona….

It’s simple to make but it has quite a visual impact. 😉

It is made with a cultivated pearl, two crystals, an amazonite stone and a decorated brass connector.

A Christmas necklace

20 Dec

For this Christmas I have been asked, by my longtime friend and only recurring customer Simona, to make a necklace that she’ll give as a gift.

I searched the web for some inspiration and, in accordance with my friend, I came up with this one….

Brass and turquoise crystals are the raw material.

Not a choker, not a long necklace.

2016 Christmas Tree ornament

19 Dec

Every year I try to make a new ornament for my ‘alternative’ Xmas tree. This year I have played with beads….

Here it is…

And here is my Tree…

24 teacups Christmas countdown

1 Dec

In the past few months I have been experimenting various things but basically they were all unfinished projects. But as Christmas is approaching now I am dedicating my time to make gifts for friends, so they won’t be published until after 25th.

But at least there’s one project/gift that can already be shown: the 24 teacups advent calendar I made for a friend.

I made all the paper envelopes and then printed and glued the numbers on each envelope. The most difficult problem  to solve was how to display it. I wanted it to be small and easy to hang to a single nail, so, in the end I made a loop/hanger with some wire and added a little snowflake as decoration….

Each envelope contains a different tea bag. One for each day. 🙂

Old fashioned new shorts

8 Sep

Among this Summer good intentions there was one about getting rid of old clothes. I’ve got plenty of old trousers which not only don’t fit me anymore but are also very old-fashioned.

So I decided, instead of spending money for a pair of new bermuda shorts to transform an old pair of bell bottom trousers.

I cut the legs and used a bit of the left over fabric to enlarge the waist area as seen in a tutorial on the web….

My shorts are Nemo approved!

Handmade birthday gift

5 Sep

For my Taiko friend Simona’s birthday, a couple of weeks ago, I bought a purse sewing kit and completed the task in 2 hours, more or less. Well, maybe more… Actually it was more difficult than I expected especially because the instruction sheet wasn’t that clear.

But the result is quite nice, isn’t it? And those purses are always useful. 😄

Productive Summer

4 Sep

All in all this has been a productive Summer. I could have done more, but you are not always inspired, right?

So, let’s start from my latest craft: here is my brand new insulated bottle holder.

Some time ago I lost – I don’t know where or when – a very handy insulated bottle holder that I bought, back in 2009,  in Japan at a 100¥ store. It was such a useful item that I decided to try and make a new one.

For the outer fabric I have chosen a scrap of this starred waterproof fabric that I used for another project last year. While for the inner insulation I have recycled an old – and a bit worn-out – windshield sun shade. The two white strings are also a recycle from an old shopping bag.

Anyway, as it is a prototype it is not perfect, perhaps it is even too big. But at least it can accomodate both 500ml or 750ml bottles easily. 😁
