First of all, Happy Holidays everyone.

Finally I can post the Christmas gifts I made for some of my friends this year.

Here is the first one….

Christmas placemats

23 Jan

This is the last post about my handmade Christmas gifts: four placemats for my friend Cristina and her family.

I wanted to give her the placemats before Christmas so that they could use them on Christmas morning for breakfast, but as usual we failed to meet before the date and they have been handed over only a couple of days ago! But better late than never! 😉

As I forgot to take pictures of them (I was in a desperate hurry to finish them before Xmas… :-0 ), Cristina herself sent me some. The fabric is from Ikea and I used some tartan bias for an extra Christmassy look. Each of them has similar but different motif.

Baby Lorenzo’s survival kit

11 Nov

My friend Simona’s sister is due to have a baby very soon and she asked me to make her a diaper stacker for her soon-to-be-born Lorenzo…. Not an easy task since I had never seen one before! Far from being discouraged I looked for informations on the web and I came across few tutorials which weren’t exactly suitable for my sewing skills. So I decided to make myself a project…. it took me at least a couple of hours to complete it!

… and a couple of weeks and a lot of Ikea fabric later… here is the result… I hope she’ll be happy with it:

Welcome to my place

I’ve been thinking to re-organize the entrance hall of my flat for a while, and finally I came up with what I think is the most unexpensive solution: I wanted to add a little bench at the entrance but I couldn’t find a suitable one. They all were too big, then my father gave me this old tea-table solid enough to be upcycled to a bench. As it was dark brown and a bit run-down I decided to paint it “ivory” white, and then to make a cushion to match with it.

First I made a squared cover for the pillow stuffing, then I sewed a zippered pillow cover with some lovely Ikea fabric. I also managed to sew an invisible zipper…. which was a first time for me! And guess what? It was easier than I thought!

The final touch is the hanger coat rack that I bought from Ikea too almost a year ago and that finally my brother had the time to come and secure to the wall. …. drilling is definitely not my piece of cake!

Ikea bag

22 Apr

Last Saturday afternoon, my crafty friend Paola and I (the arts&crafts dynamic duo!) went to our local Ikea for a sewing workshop organised for the Ikea Family card holders.

The workshop was organised with a local fashion school and the partecipants were looked after by some tutors who explained the projects and helped when needed. There were quite few different projects to choose and we opted for a sling bag.

It was the first time for Paola with a sewing machine and despite some little hesitations she finished her project too.

Here is my sling bag. I must confess that I don’t particularly like the model… but I’m happy that I learnt some new tricks, I had some confirmations that I’m not doing wrong, and I had the chance to try the Ikea sewing machine, which is quite easy to use.

All in all, a very enjoyable experience!

Spring case

26 Mar

After the Easter gifts for my friends I decided – of course! – to make a case for myself as well. I was really envious about those lovely cases… ehehehe!

Again I used some Ikea fabric for the outer shell while the lining is a reminder I bought at my local market. The zip is light blue which, I think, goes well with the blue dots on the fabric.

I really enjoy  matching the zip with the fabric. eheheheh! 🙂 I also used a blue thread to sew it just to add a bit of “extra” flair…. 😎

Easter gifts

Here are two fabric cases – cosmetic cases, that I made for my friends as Easter gifts.

The outer fabric is from Ikea, while the lining is a reminder I bought at my local market. Despite the fabric is the same, I tried to match the stripes with the colour of the zip (one beige and the other pink).

It was my first attempt with a lined item, so I can say that I’m pretty satisfied and most of all, learning the lining process has opened a whole new world in front of me… 🙂

BTW, for a more Easter touch I filled the cases with some fine chocolate eggs…

Pouch frenzy

7 Mar

I’ve got the pouch frenzy! Here is another pouch I made with some Ikea fabric with pink and beige stripes. I added a fuchsia zip and two beige flaps on both sides. Not bad, uh! 🙂
