A farewell gift

22 Mar

My post today is about a little gift I made for a friend who is leaving for a while.

My friend and Taiko teacher Tomoko is going back to Japan for 1 year, so I wanted to thank her for her kindness, patience and for all the time that she spent on teaching me.

I also selfishly made this so that when she looks at it she might remind of me too, and, by the way, little pouches are always useful! 😀

Thank you for all the happy hours Tomoko-sensei. Come back soon!

Wedding purse

23 Jul

I have been invited to a wedding at the end of July (apparently people do still get married!!) so since I’ll be wearing a pair of sandals with a bit of gold in them I decided to make myself a matching purse with some Japanese “kimono” fabric I purchased recently at a stall in a Japanese “matsuri” held here in Milan last month….

It is small but capacious enough, and it is also reversible!

Pencil case for Dad

21 Jan

My father doesn’t want any Christmas present anymore. I don’t know why but probably he thinks that he already has all that he needs and he doesn’t want that we spend money for him… So, in recent years I began to make his presents myself. This year, since he likes to draw and write, and he’s always looking for places where to store his pencils and pens, I made this pencil case for him. It is very simple but useful.

I’m not sure if the fabric is suitable enough for a man, but it is the best I came up with. BTW, I really like to use colourful zips in contrast.

Remnant case

24 Jun

Here is another project I made last weekend. Again I used some remnant of my “cushion-project” here. I’m not completely satisfied with it… I even forgot to add flaps on both to make it easier to zip/unzip. Anyway, next time I’m going to try to make a case with the end tabs of the zipper too!

The origami bag

23 Jun

I worked a bit with my sewing-machine this past weekend and, among other things,  I made this lovely origami market bag. I used some remnant from this project here, and I got the tutorial from here.

It is very quick to do and you can also easily modify its size: you can make it bigger or smaller depending on your needs! This one is 30×30 cm.

Ikea bag

22 Apr

Last Saturday afternoon, my crafty friend Paola and I (the arts&crafts dynamic duo!) went to our local Ikea for a sewing workshop organised for the Ikea Family card holders.

The workshop was organised with a local fashion school and the partecipants were looked after by some tutors who explained the projects and helped when needed. There were quite few different projects to choose and we opted for a sling bag.

It was the first time for Paola with a sewing machine and despite some little hesitations she finished her project too.

Here is my sling bag. I must confess that I don’t particularly like the model… but I’m happy that I learnt some new tricks, I had some confirmations that I’m not doing wrong, and I had the chance to try the Ikea sewing machine, which is quite easy to use.

All in all, a very enjoyable experience!

Pouch frenzy

7 Mar

I’ve got the pouch frenzy! Here is another pouch I made with some Ikea fabric with pink and beige stripes. I added a fuchsia zip and two beige flaps on both sides. Not bad, uh! 🙂

The toothbrush pouch

6 Mar

Following this useful tutorial I made myself a brand new pouch for my toothbrush and toothpaste to keep in my drawer at work. The fabric is a remnant of my previous project while the zip is upcycled from an old bag.

I changed the measures to fit in the toothbrush and the result is definitely better than expected!

Boxy pouches for two

5 Mar

Last Sunday afternoon me and my friend Paola decided to give it a try to this lovely tutorial and make ourselves a boxy pouch each. We cut and misured and then I took out my faithfull sewing machine and made it!

Paola’s fabric (blue with white drops) was a bit lighter than mine (blue with white leaves), so the result is not just alike.

Despite, in the end we were both happy with the result, I decided make some small changes and unpicked the sides to add some flaps on both to make it easier to zip/unzip.  🙂

Tree decorations

17 Dec

Last Christmas (I gave you my heart but the very next day you gave it away….)… no, it’s not the famous Wham! song…. is that, last Christmas I launched the ritual to make decorations for my tree (see here).

So, this year (to save me from tears, I’ll give it to someone special...) – sorry again for this Wham interference – I had to  keep up with this newly established tradition.

That’s why last Friday, as I was stuck at home because of a little snowfall, I took the sewing machine and made these decorations… I made few of them. The white one was the prototype, but since it came out sufficiently decent I decided to hang it too.  🙂  I made six decorations with the Scottish fabric, three with silver thread and three with white thread.

The most difficult part for me was to sew in circle… that was an “experience”, but I think I’ve found out the trick. 😀
